Originally, the concept of the Perigee Pro was prototyped using a single pin. Conventional thinking in the skydiving industry dictated that a single pin was the way to go. However, we were not designing for skydiving and it became apparent that a dual-pin closure would offer a number of advantages over a single-pin closed design.

Dual -Pins distribute the closing forces across a larger area. This allows us to use a lower overall pin tension. More importantly, when a rig is actually tightened down on the user's back, pin tension increases. The use of dual pins minimizes this effect making it easier to control actual pin tension.

Dual pins allow the rig to have a flatter profile. The flatter a rig is the easier it is to move around with or conceal.
A container closed with two-pins requires the side flaps to have a relatively long plastic insert as support for the grommets. The benefit to this is that it is almost impossible for a suspension line to loop around this long edge of the flap. Conversely, a single-pin container will have flaps that taper to a narrow edge with a single grommet. This geometry can actually encourage a line to entangle with the side flap.
The Perigee Pro bridle uses two stainless steel pins spaced 1.0" (2.5cm) further apart than the side flap grommets. This allows the pins to pull in sequence rather than simultaneously, thus lowering the pull force.
This arrangement also greatly reduces the possibility of a horseshoe malfunction should one pin be pulled prematurely.
As the bridle loads the first pin is extracted, the pin protector flap is flipped open and then the second pin is extracted. This sequencing ensures that regardless of body position the pull force will remain consistent.
The pin protector flap is stiffened with ballistic nylon. This reinforcing greatly reduces the chances of either an accidental or premature movement of the closing pins. The pin protector flap is neither symetrical or identical in shape to the underlying side flap. The is done to allow the first pin to load prior to the pin protector thus making the system safer for low speeds while maintaining it's security at high speeds.
